Introduction

Saint Dominic Parish was founded in southwest Oakville in 1955 and, today, we are a vibrant, faith-filled and growing community of over 2,000 families. For a parish that is more than 50-years old, upkeep of the church and properties is most important in order to ensure that both current and future parishioners can come together to worship God in a well-maintained and safe environment. The Parish has done an excellent job in this area, as evidenced in recent years by several new improvements: - church roof - pews and carpeting - sanctuary - acoustically improved ceiling in the church - air conditioning - beautiful, large Pentecost stained glass window - chapel for weekday Mass - plus, numerous smaller projects

As a result of our collective efforts our Parish is debt-free; the interior improvements to the church have enhanced our Masses and religious gatherings; and, our buildings are in good condition.

Exterior Focus

We are now ready to “shine our light outwardly” or, to “radiate”, as we focus on the exterior of the church property.

To that end, our Parish is addressing a number of deficiencies, notably: - Broken, uneven concrete, which is a safety hazard, at the front entranceway on Rebecca Street - Poor vehicle access at the front entrance - not user-friendly for funerals and weddings - Unattractive landscape facing the street

“Radiating Our Faith” Exterior Design

“Radiating Our Faith” is much more than just “landscaping”. It is an extension of our church. The plan starts with the cross on the church steeple and radiates from that point through the overall exterior design including new hard surfaces, trees, shrubs and attractive gardens. The design incorporates a semi-circular driveway at the front of the church on Rebecca Street to better serve the needs of parishioners for funerals and weddings. New trees and gardens will be strategically placed to significantly beautify the exterior of the church property. On the west side, the beautiful Right to Life monument will be made more prominent by encouraging access to the area through walkways and benches. Allowances have also been made for benches to be situated in front of the church and at the exterior entranceway to the Parish Centre to enable parishioners to rest and meditate at any time or, to sit while waiting for a ride after Mass or a meeting. To complete the project, an irrigation system (automatic sprinklers) will be included, together with exterior lighting and attractive new signage at the front of the church.

The “Radiating Our Faith” exterior design will dramatically and pleasingly improve the appearance of the outside of our church while ensuring both the practical and safety needs of parishioners are met.

Pledge Campaign

The cost of “Radiating Our Faith” is $200,000 and there are several benefits for our parishioners: - Safety – new hard surfaces - Enjoyment - beautiful “green” landscape - Ease of access - for funerals and weddings - Donations are tax deductible - Recognition, if desired

In order to make this worthwhile Parish initiative a reality for 2008, we are seeking the support of parishioners through a two-year pledge campaign.

Parishioners may choose to donate in one of the following categories, and spread the payment amount over the years 2007 and 2008.

Category 2-Year Pledge

- Donor - $300* - Sponsor - $500 - Patron - $1,000 - Grand Patron - $2,000 - Benefactor - $5,000

* $150 each year in 2007 and 2008, and so on for each category

Donor Recognition

At the end of the campaign, a large framed certificate will be placed in the Parish Centre recognizing the generosity of our parishioners. Parishioners can donate: - in their name - in the name of a loved one - in memory of someone - anonymously, if they prefer

“Radiating Our Faith” is a much needed project to improve the exterior of Saint Dominic Church in terms of safety, practical applications and aesthetics. The end result will be something that all parishioners can enjoy and be proud of for many years.
